about us

our centre

Since 1989 the Integral Yoga Centre has grown rapidly and we now offer classes in philosophy, meditation and Hatha yoga for beginners and more advanced practitioners. Our aim is to share the science of Yoga and spread peace among all.

our founder of Integral Yoga

The founder of Integral Yoga® International Swami Satchidananda helped pioneer the introduction of Yoga to the western world. Swami Satchidananda shared his teachings, which promote an easeful body, a peaceful mind, and a useful life. He taught that selfless service and interfaith understanding were essential for a peaceful world.

The Integral Yoga global community includes over 20,000 Integral Yoga teachers and Yoga therapists;many of whom have become leaders in the changing paradigm of modern Yoga and healthcare, as well as founding successful programs for specific populations.

The international headquarters of Integral Yoga are at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville® in Virginia, USA.

Life President and Founder of Integral Yoga Gibraltar

Nalanie Harilela Chellaram is a modern spiritual teacher, a true Soul Doctor dedicated to selfless service.

She was born in 1954 into the distinguished Indian family, the Harilela’s.

She grew up in the presence of a close family friend who, unbeknown at the time, was to have a deep and lasting influence in her life.

This frequent visitor and friend was Swami Satchidananda, her beloved Guru.

Nalanie travels the world to spread a message of wisdom, compassion and love, based on the philosophy of Yoga.

She is the founder of the Integral Yoga Centre Gibraltar and George Harilela Hall in Sotogrande, and gives Satsangs both there and internationally.

In March 2008, Nalanie received an Honour in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second New Year’s Honour’s List. She was recognised for her ‘Services to Humanity’.

In October that year she also received a “Humanitarian Award” from the Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia, USA.

In 2009 Nalanie set up an association called “Service in Satchidananda”, a non-profit international collective of charities established in honour of Sri Swami Satchidananda and based on his core teaching of selfless service.

“My interest in yoga was nourished when I started attending the integral yoga centre in Gibraltar some years ago and even though my attendance was intermittent as we do not permanently live in Gibraltar, every time I returned I got a sense of “coming home”. This homecoming feeling was not only because of the beautiful facilities at the yoga centre but the many wonderful yoga teachers who welcomed me into their classes and the students who attended and befriended me.

The yoga centre is a professionally run centre in the heart of Gibraltar offering a range of classes for different abilities. During my time in Gibraltar, this centre and the community within it, were instrumental in teaching and developing my resilience and wellbeing using yoga. The teachers are trained to an exceptionally high standard and welcome everyone from different walks of life to their classes on a donation basis. There is real community spirit here and most of all unconditional love for everyone.

I started practicing Hatha Yoga around 2015 – I had been putting it off for several years, partly a resistance to the unknown and whether I would fit in. Gender balance may also have been an ill-founded consideration.

I usually attend the Integral Yoga Centre once or twice a week. All students are welcomed, supported and encouraged.

The centre is beautifully decorated and contributes to the overall experience – a setting that inspires harmony and tranquillity, so important to the calming and relaxing experience of practicing Hatha Yoga. There is also great connection between participants.

The classes are very well delivered by trained teachers who constantly provide careful guidance and instructions – a thoughtful mix of breathing exercises, postures and relaxation techniques connecting body and mind. I always feel grounded, mindful and reenergised after a class.

My experiences at the Integral Yoga Centre have always been very positive, an antidote to the daily stresses of life, contributing greatly to my overall sense of balance and well-being.
