In October that year she also received a “Humanitarian Award” from the Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia, USA.

In 2009 Nalanie set up an association called “Service in Satchidananda”, a non-profit international collective of charities established in honour of Sri Swami Satchidananda and based on his core teaching of selfless service.

“My interest in yoga was nourished when I started attending the integral yoga centre in Gibraltar some years ago and even though my attendance was intermittent as we do not permanently live in Gibraltar, every time I returned I got a sense of “coming home”. This homecoming feeling was not only because of the beautiful facilities at the yoga centre but the many wonderful yoga teachers who welcomed me into their classes and the students who attended and befriended me.

The yoga centre is a professionally run centre in the heart of Gibraltar offering a range of classes for different abilities. During my time in Gibraltar, this centre and the community within it, were instrumental in teaching and developing my resilience and wellbeing using yoga. The teachers are trained to an exceptionally high standard and welcome everyone from different walks of life to their classes on a donation basis. There is real community spirit here and most of all unconditional love for everyone.

I started practicing Hatha Yoga around 2015 – I had been putting it off for several years, partly a resistance to the unknown and whether I would fit in. Gender balance may also have been an ill-founded consideration.

I usually attend the Integral Yoga Centre once or twice a week. All students are welcomed, supported and encouraged.

The centre is beautifully decorated and contributes to the overall experience – a setting that inspires harmony and tranquillity, so important to the calming and relaxing experience of practicing Hatha Yoga. There is also great connection between participants.

The classes are very well delivered by trained teachers who constantly provide careful guidance and instructions – a thoughtful mix of breathing exercises, postures and relaxation techniques connecting body and mind. I always feel grounded, mindful and reenergised after a class.

My experiences at the Integral Yoga Centre have always been very positive, an antidote to the daily stresses of life, contributing greatly to my overall sense of balance and well-being.
